Questions about home office setup
Do you charge more to come to a house?
No. Residential and commercial callouts are the same rate within the same zone. We're mobile either way, and a home office in Thornlands is no harder to reach than an office in Cleveland.
Can a home office go on a managed plan?
Yes, and sole operators often do. It's priced per user, so a one-person business pays for one user and gets the same monitoring, patching, backup and support as a twenty-person office.
How do I keep work and family devices separate?
We put family devices, smart TVs and consoles on a separate network from your work machine. That way a compromised tablet can't reach your business files, and heavy streaming doesn't sit in the way of your video calls.
Can you help me claim the setup at tax time?
We can't give tax advice, but we itemise every invoice by hardware, labour and ongoing service so your accountant has what they need. Plenty of our clients are accountants, and that's the format they've asked for.
How much does a home office setup cost?
The standard visit is a fixed price and hardware is quoted at cost on top, so you know the total before we arrive. What moves it is the house rather than the desk — a double-brick back room needing an access point costs more than a study next to the router.
Is my home network secure enough for client data?
Usually not as supplied. A default home router puts your work laptop on the same network as smart TVs, consoles and family devices, any one of which can be compromised without anyone noticing. Separating work from family traffic takes an afternoon and is the single thing most worth doing.
