Web, search and AEO
Troy Overend
The web and search side of the business. If a page on this site ranks, or an AI assistant names Kosmos IT when someone asks who supports small offices in the Redlands, that is Troy's work.
Who does the work
Troy is a web designer and digital marketer, and he handles everything to do with being found: site builds and rebuilds, technical SEO, local search, and answer-engine optimisation. He owns two businesses of his own — Brand Visibility and Knowledge Catalog — and brings that work to Kosmos IT clients who want to be discovered as well as supported.
The approach is the same one that runs through the rest of this site: understand what a business actually does before recommending anything, and prefer the practical outcome to the complicated one. Ranking a page is the easy half. The harder half is making a business's expertise, service area and answers legible to whatever is doing the searching — a person typing into Google, or a language model summarising the market on their behalf.
That is why this site is built the way it is: structured data on every service page, a written answer for every question clients actually ask, and static pages that load quickly on a phone in a car park.
What he works on most
- Website design and rebuilds — fast, owned outright by the client, built to be found rather than to win an award
- Technical SEO: crawlability, structured data, site architecture and the page-speed work that underpins everything else
- Local SEO and the Google map pack — the difference between being found by someone two suburbs away and not existing to them
- Answer Engine Optimisation — being named when someone asks ChatGPT or Google's AI answers for a recommendation
- Content and knowledge structure, so a business's expertise is findable instead of sitting in one person's head
- Measuring visibility as enquiries rather than as rankings, which are easy to move and easy to misread
Why an IT company does search work at all
It is a fair question. Most of the small businesses we support have a website nobody has touched in four years and a Google Business Profile someone set up on a phone in 2019. That is the same neglected-infrastructure problem as an unpatched server, and it usually costs more, because it quietly stops new work arriving. Rather than refer it out and hope, we do it.
