IT support in Redland Bay

Redland Bay is the far end of the peninsula, which matters more for internet than anyone expects. The newer estates south of Serpentine Creek Road are largely fibre, while older streets closer to the water still sit on copper runs long enough to cost real speed. We work on both, on site or remotely.

What breaks in Redland Bay

A large share of the work here is home-based and marine-adjacent: charter operators, trades who bill from a laptop at the kitchen table, and consultants who moved out this far precisely because they no longer needed to commute. The office is a room rather than a floor, and the whole business runs through one connection.

That single connection is the weak point. On the older copper near the water, a line that syncs at 40Mbps in July can be sitting at 12Mbps by February, because moisture in a joint is a seasonal fault rather than a permanent one. People assume the router has aged. Usually it has not. We test sync rate at the socket before recommending anything, because replacing hardware on a line fault just gives you a faster device attached to the same bad copper.

The fix that actually works out here is a second path. A 4G or 5G failover unit that takes over automatically when the fixed line drops costs less per month than most people expect, and for a business that invoices from home it is the difference between a bad afternoon and a lost day. We size it on real usage rather than a plan brochure.

The other recurring job is distance. Waterfront blocks are long, and the router sits wherever the lead-in happened to land, often the garage. A cabled access point at the far end of the house is a two-hour job and removes the dead zone permanently, which is not something a mesh node sitting inside that same dead zone can do.

A charter operator, Redland Bay

Bookings were taken on a laptop that lost connection most afternoons. The operator had already bought two mesh units. The actual fault was a corroded external joint dropping the line to 6Mbps under load, and the mesh had simply distributed a broken connection more evenly around the house. We had the line fault logged with the carrier, put a 4G failover in on the same visit, and bookings stopped dropping while the repair went through.

Urgent?

If your line is down and you invoice from home, that is an outage rather than an inconvenience. Emergency IT support covers Redland Bay outside business hours.

Redland Bay questions we get asked

Do you actually come out to Redland Bay?

Yes. Redland Bay sits inside our standard Redlands coverage, on site within about two hours during business hours and usually faster in the morning. There is no travel surcharge for the southern end of the peninsula.

My internet is slow but the router is new. What now?

Almost certainly the line rather than the router, especially on the older copper streets near the water. We test sync speed at the socket, which shows within minutes whether the fault is yours to fix or the carrier’s. Replacing a router on a line fault changes nothing.

Can you set up backup internet so I am not stuck?

Yes, and it is one of the more worthwhile things you can do out here. A 4G or 5G failover switches across automatically when the fixed line drops, so a card payment or a booking does not fail while you wait on a carrier.

Redland Bay sits inside our Redlands coverage. Nearby: Victoria Point, Thornlands, Mount Cotton.

Slow line, or a dead zone at the back of the house? We will test it properly first.
